- The Mount Holyoke Student Gardening Initiative, also known as Crops for Closer Community began as an independent study in 2004. The current garden was founded in the summer of 2007. Initial funding was provided by the generosity of the Senior Class of 2007, as well as the Center for the Environment. The garden's produce is sold annually to the Mount Holyoke College Dining Services, who prepare the food for a Locally Grown themed dinner. The garden will serve as a platform to initiate conversations about local food production, food security, and overall campus sustainability. Crops for Closer Community is an initiative of the Mount Holyoke Food Justice Society, a student run organization, as well as the Center for the Environment, with support from the Environmental Studies Department.
