The Colpitts' Farm

Hi folks! Kayla here.

I'm in New Hampshire for the night at a little family farm in Monroe. The view is gorgeous everywhere around. There are mountains and farms everywhere!

The farm I'm staying at is small enough to feed a family of 5 during the summer and share their surplus with others (luckily including myself and a few friends).

For dinner last night we had salad picked straight from the garden, homemade bread bought at the farmer's market that day, and goat cheese from a maker just down the road. Dessert was a blueberry pie and the berries were picked only an hour before the pie was made! Probably about as local as you can get.

The family also grows cherries, corn, cucumber, onions, garlic, and some livestock: two pigs and several sheep. The sheep are for breeding and the pigs are for eating (jokingly nicknamed "Christmas" and "Easter"). Last year's pigs were names Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (get it? because Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead!)

Aaaand breakfast the following morning was a cherry cobbler made from the cherries off of their tree!

I tell you, there is nothing better than cool people with farms and good food.
